The difference between the digital file and the printed ceramic pot highlights the gap between planning and execution in the material-physical world. The digital file is accurate, symmetrical and flawless, while the urn warped during firing and gravity caused the soft clay to ooze in some places. The gap between the urn and the digital file came to stimulate a discussion about the difference between the virtual world and the material reality, and to demonstrate the potential changes in the translation of virtual information into a three-dimensional material object.
